Elon Musk| Artificial Intelligence - Summoning the Demon

It seems space is the limit for Space X founder Elon Musk. With the return of the robotic space plane X-37B the pioneer is wondering if technology can go too far. Are we to deal with clones and droids in our near future. Now that Google has purchased weaponized robots, a quantum computer and A.I., Elon Musk equates artificial intelligence with the summoning of demons. Has he seen Aliens From Hell?

During a speech at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on Friday, Musk stated, "With artificial intelligence we are summoning the demon," according to The Post.

Musk's comments highlighted a budding ethical debate in the tech sector about whether machines should be able to think for themselves. Autonomous technology is a hot topic in engineering circles, and occupies a prominent place in popular culture.

Speaking Friday at the MIT Aeronautics and Astronautics department’s Centennial Symposium, Musk called it our biggest existential threat:

"I think we should be very careful about artificial intelligence. If I were to guess like what our biggest existential threat is, it’s probably that. So we need to be very careful with the artificial intelligence. Increasingly scientists think there should be some regulatory oversight maybe at the national and international level, just to make sure that we don’t do something very foolish. With artificial intelligence we are summoning the demon. In all those stories where there’s the guy with the pentagram and the holy water, it’s like yeah he’s sure he can control the demon. Didn’t work out."
